People destroyed from lack of knowledge Hosea 4:6

Knowledge is a precious commodity in our society today. We need knowledge to be able to live day to day - could you imagine trying to take a trip without knowing how to read the road signs; or trying to work at something that you don't know anything about. Knowledge and wisdom run on parallel tracks but are not identical in their meaning. Knowledge is knowing, wisdom is putting that knowledge to good use - without the knowledge; there wouldn't be much use for wisdom.

knowledge BibleA Christian without knowledge of the Word of God and knowing the attributes of God is like trying to take a trip without knowing how to read a map. You may go somewhere..... but the where is what no one would know. The Lord spoke sound words of wisdom to his people; the nation of Isreal in the Old Testament about knowledge. He said in Hosea 4:6Hosea 4:6 - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.  KJV that his people were destroyed because of their lack of knowledge. Not just any knowledge, the knowledge of him and his words. What did he mean by destroyed ? Because of their lack of knowledge about him, they did not know how to please him; therefore he could not bless and prosper them.

We do see a lot of this same type of "lack of knowledge" today in the church. People who don't have an understanding about the precepts of God or the ways of God. Those same people always asking questions like this - why is this going on in my life or why is this happening to me or some other questions they can't find the answer to. Lives untracked and lives destroyed due to a lack of understanding of who God is and what he desires from us - we must have knowledge of him for him to be able to prosper and bless our lives. Our knowledge of God must go past John 3:16Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  KJV, the salvation verse. We should; after we are saved; have a desire to develop a real relationship with him through diligently seeking him .... in prayer, reading his word, and living the life that pleases him. All these are considered "knowledge". An abundance of this will keep us from the destruction God was talking about in Hosea 4:6. It's not really complicated how to please God with our lives; it's done the same way it was 2, 3 or 5 thousand years ago.
