I saw a commercial on TV that was advertising a church; and in the commercial there was several families and individuals who told what they wanted their church to be. One said they wanted a church where everyone would feel welcome, another said they wanted a church that would tend their kids during service, and still another said they wanted a church that was current and relevant to the times. They all wanted the church what they wanted it to be ! Now the problem with that is that if it is what people want it to be; can it be what God wants it to be ? It would be much wiser to ask the question; I wonder what God wants, I wonder what his will is for me - what would he say about it if he would talk personally to me.
The true Christians are those who live more to please God and seek his will than to fill their own selfish wants and needs; even is such a simple decision as the church they choose to go to. There is a defining line in people's lives who serve God, some say in themselves, not my will but thine be done - and still others say, not thy will, but mine be done. This is the same defining line between heaven and hell as the final destination. Those that will enter into heaven have made the commitment to God; not my will be done, but thine, Father. Jesus made this perfectly clear in Matthew 7:21Mat 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. KJV. His instruction to us in this verse is to seek the will of God with our lives, not our own selfish wants and needs. According to this verse, to be right with the Father, one must seek God's will for their lives instead of their own will.
What is the will of the Father for me and you ? Oh that's easy my friend, after you have accepted his son Jesus Christ as your savior - then you must continually and diligently seek his will for your life until the day of your departure. That's what we call "walking the walk" and not just "talking the talk" !
