The motivating monster called charity

Do you want to influence and motivate people in a positive way ? Do you want to be that person that everybody loves to see coming and always enjoys their company ? If so, then learn the way of what the Bible calls charity. The word charity is spoken of in the Bible twenty-nine times and it always refers to that state of heart called love, kind, considerate, caring, benevolent and affectionate. You have probably ran across someone in life that lifted you up and made you feel better, and motivated you to want to do better; just by their way and character - it's a good chance that this person had this thing the Bible calls charity. It will move people to want to do better and be better.

The Bible says of charity in 1 Corinthians 13:21 Cor 13:2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.   KJV, that a person could prophesy with the best of them, have the understanding of all things, move mountains with their faith; but lack the charity to move and motivate people - those other things would benefit them nothing. And it certainly won't benefit the learn charitykingdom of God anything either. First and foremost for Christians, our goals should be to help people come to a better understanding of the principles of God and spirituality, but it's impossible to do that if we can't motivate and influence them to a better place. This is where the charity enters into the equation - love them first and then help them to get to a better place. Don't preach to them first, or show off your Bible knowledge; without loving them, it may only drive them away.

I believe this is a concept that we sorely need to put to good use in our churches today. We've got the big buildings, the snazzy programs, the big singing choirs, the primmed and proper preachers, but we are missing the most important ingredient of Christianity, love. A church that knows how to show people this thing the Bible calls charity; may not be the biggest church in the town, or the wealthiest, but it will be the best church in the town; and certainly one that is doing the will of their God.
