Hell a place of fire agony desolation and torment

The word hell in the english language is one that usually strikes fear and dread in the hearts of people. Some people have chosen to disbelieve or scoff at the idea of a literal place called hell; but it's existence is not based on whether people choose to believe in it or not; it's existence is based on facts given in God's Word. God said it, that settles it !

The Bible has a lot to say about this place called hell. First and foremost, why did God make a place like this ? Hell was made for the devil (satan) and his angels (demons), and all that chose to follow him. Who would choose to follow the devil? Those who reject the idea that there is a God and those who reject God's way of salvation through Jesus, those whose name is not found in the book of life15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.  KJV. Everyone will serve one or the other, the Lord or the devil, there is no other way to go. Jesus said it best in Matthew 7:13-4Mat 7:13 - Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  KJV
, only two ways a person can go in life, the wide path that leads to destruction (hell) or the straight way that leads to eternal life (heaven).

Jesus spoke more about hell in the gospels; than anywhere else in the Bible. He told the story of the rich man and an old beggar named Lazarus.... when they died; one went to heaven and the other went to hell. Jesus said in hell the rich man lifted up his eyes (Luke 16:23-26 And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25  But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26  And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.  KJV
), instantly after his death. The next thing he knew from his last breath on earth, was the torment of hell (the flames of hell); so we can see to be absent from the body is to be in our chosen eternity. Another thing Jesus shows us in this teaching is that there is a gulf fixed between those in hell and those in heaven; but they can see across the divide and desire to be there. This would be torment in itself, Isaiah said the same thing in the last three verses of the book of IsaiahIsaiah 66:22 - For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.  KJV
.

Another thing Jesus said about hell is in Mark 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:  KJV
; it would better for a person to cut off their hand, or their foot, or pluck their eye out (if those are causing them to sin) and enter into heaven maimed, than it would be to go to hell with all our members. We can see the seriousness of the Lord himself when it comes to this place called hell. He also said in those verses that it is a place where the fire is not quenched.... ever ! Hell is a real place and there are real people there even as I write this article - we hope one of those who will wind up there in the future won't be you.
